What are SF6-Free AIS Switching Modules?

SF6-Free AIS Switching Modules are the core interrupting and isolating components used to build eco-friendly Ring Main Units (RMUs) and compact switchgear. Instead of using sulfur hexafluoride (a potent greenhouse gas), these modules utilize atmospheric air, vacuum interrupters, or solid epoxy resin encapsulation to achieve reliable 12kV/24kV insulation and arc quenching. They typically include Air Insulated Disconnectors and integrated Circuit Breaker modules with a visible isolation gap.

Functions as a robust isolating switch within the cabinet. It relies on optimized geometric designs of copper contacts and atmospheric air clearances to withstand 20kA/25kA short-time currents. 02

Integrated Vacuum Interrupter

For the Circuit Breaker variants, a compact vacuum interrupter is integrated directly into the module framework, enabling high-capacity fault clearing without increasing the module's footprint.

Solid Encapsulated Switch

The BE85SV series embeds the vacuum interrupter and main conductive parts inside high-dielectric epoxy resin. This prevents dust accumulation, resists moisture, and ensures long-term reliability in harsh environments.

The distinction generally refers to the structural arrangement and mounting orientation designed to fit different compact switchgear architectures. Type I (e.g., BE82G) and Type II (e.g., BE87G) offer different busbar connection alignments to give panel builders maximum flexibility when designing the internal layout of their RMUs. Both ensure identical electrical performance and SF6-free compliance.

Traditionally, yes. However, our advanced Solid Encapsulated Switches (BE85SV) and highly optimized Air Insulated modules utilize specialized geometric contact designs and epoxy resin barriers. This allows them to achieve 12kV insulation in a very compact footprint, enabling you to build eco-friendly RMUs that are similar in size to legacy SF6 gas tanks.

Our Circuit Breaker variants (BE87XV, BE82XV) are equipped with vacuum interrupters capable of breaking short-circuit currents up to 25kA. However, the Disconnector variants (BE87G, BE82G) are isolating switches designed to carry normal load currents and withstand short-time fault currents (20/25kA for 3s), but they must not be used to break short-circuit currents on their own.
